An introduction to Ovington
The second smallest parish in Tynedale an area of just over one square mile and neighbours Ovingham to its eastern boundary. The name derives from the Old English meaning “the hill of the family or followers of Offa”.
The village has traditional built, converted farm and new build dwellings all of the local matching honey coloured stone. There are former council properties and sheltered accommodation in the form of low maintenance bungalows.
On the outskirts of Ovington there is a garden centre and the centre of the village boasts an inn, a tea room and gift shop, a social club, a bead and breakfast establishment and a social club. The village is 12 miles east of Hexham and 14 miles west of Newcastle, buses on routes 684 and 685 connect the village with both Hexham and Newcastle.
