An introduction to Broomley and Stocksfield
Gentle walks through meadows and woodland within the 7 square miles await the visitor. Stocksfield is just 8 miles to the east of Hexham and 20 miles by major road west of Newcastle. There is a railway station at Stocksfield (Newcastle to Carlisle line)and the major residential area is served by bus routes 602 and 604.
The parish includes not only Broomley & Stocksfield, but also the residential developments of Branch End, New Ridley and Guessburn. There is a first school, a cricket club a golf club, several childminders and four nurseries and playgroups. The parish is well served with a health centre, a pharmacy, two newsagents, two post offices and a small supermarket, a Methodist and a Baptist chapel.
The mining industry has long since vanished from the area of the Tyne valley and farming, tourism and forestry now flourish. With the easy access to Newcastle there are mixed residential developments with large detached properties in the Guessburn area of New Ridley.
